'Darnau bach o dir' (Pieces of the land) Kurinuki Bowls

This process 'Kurinuki' reminds me of the importance of finding beauty in things that are not quite 'perfect'. Like life, these bowls are full of texture, there are rough patches together with the smooth and having a combination of both creates something quite beautiful .

This period has proved that life events are unpredictable and as cracks become more apparent within our culture it is more necessary than ever for us to try and find beauty and comfort in the small things. This mindset is particularly relevant when working with clay because once the work is in the kiln the maker loses all control. One has to let go of any expectations or hopes because the finished work depends on the flames of the kiln. And if I've learned anything over the last few months, it is that cracks appear in life as well as in ceramics!

I have enjoyed creating this collection of bowls and see them all as representing small pieces of land that convey the different textures within the landscape and in life.

Mae'r broses yma o greu ac wrth edrych ar y canlyniadau yn fy atgoffa o bwysigrwydd ffeindio prydferthwch yn y pethau sydd ddim cweit yn 'berffaith'. Fel bywyd, mae'r powlenni 'ma llawn gwead, lle mae 'na ddarnau garw ynghyd â'r llyfn ac mae cael cyfuniad o'r ddau yn gallu bod yn rhywbeth eithaf hyfryd.

 Mae'r cyfnod yma wedi profi nad oes modd rhagweld digwyddiadau bywyd ac wrth i graciau o fewn diwylliant ddod yn fwy amlwg mae'n fwy angenrheidiol nag erioed i ni drio ffeindio prydferthwch a chysur yn y pethau bychain. Mae'r meddylfryd yma yn hynod o berthnasol wrth weithio gyda chlai oherwydd unwaith mae'r gwaith yn yr odyn mae'r gwneuthurwr yn colli pob rheolaeth. Mae'n rhaid gadael fynd o unrhyw ddisgwyliadau neu obeithion achos mae'r gwaith gorffenedig yn ddibynnol ar fflamau'r odyn. Ac os ydw i wedi dysgu unrhywbeth dros y misoedd diwethaf, dwi’n gweld bod craciau yn ymddangos mewn bywyd yn ogystal â mewn gweithiau cerameg! 

Dwi wedi mwynhau creu'r casgliad yma o bowlenni ac yn eu gweld fel darnau bach o dir sy'n cyfleu'r mynyddoedd garw a'r pwysigrwydd o ffeindio prydferthwch mewn bywyd yn ystod y cyfnodau garw. 

Each ceramic bowl is made with a material directly from the landcaspe i.e pieces of Welsh slate, or glaze made from heather and gorse.

Mae pob powlen cerameg wedi ei greu gyda deunydd o’r tirwedd e.e darnau o lechi yn y clai neu gwydredd wedi ei greu gyda eithin a grug.
